When is Hanukkah this Year?

by | Nov 11, 2015

Hanukkah is the festival of lights that usually takes place for 8 nights in December each year. As with all other Jewish holidays, it falls at different times of the month, and is based on the Jewish calendar. (download your Jewish holiday calendar below).

This can get frustrating for many interfaith families. Hanukkah may fall early like it does in 2015, where it starts on December 6th, or it may fall late where it falls right over Christmas.

If you celebrate Chrismukkah (the hybrid holiday of Christmas and Hanukkah) then you have to decide if you want to celebrate it during Hanukkah, on Christmas, or sometime in between. We usually pick a night during Hanukkah, hopefully close to Christmas.

I can’t tell you how many times a year someone in our family asks the question “When is Hanukkah this year?”. So to make it easy for you, I listed the dates for the next 6 years for you here. If you would like a calendar that you can print and put on your fridge then get it below.

So When is Hanukkah in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020?

Based on the Jewish calendar, Hanukkah, is starts on the following dates and then carries on for 8 nights after that.

All Jewish holidays begin at sundown on the evening before the actual holiday. So I have made sure to include the evening before when listing the dates for you.

Why Should You Know When Hanukkah is?

Hanukkah runs for 8 nights. It is important to know when it is to arrange Hanukkah, Christmas or Chrismukkah events. While Hanukkah is not a particularly religious holiday, it is still a favorite holiday for many Jewish families, especially with all the excitement around the December holiday season.
